4 tips on how to prepare for a recruitment test!

Recruitment test tips

Have you just received a recruitment test, for example PI Behavioral Assessment? It is totally normal to be a little bit nervous but there is really nothing to be worried about. It is important to remember that there are no right or wrong answers in most personality assessments, and the result is therefore not a question of good or bad. Instead it is about understanding who you are as a person in relation to the role. The hiring organisation wants you to be happy and motivated in your new job.

Here are four valuable tips you can have in mind when you complete recruitment tests:

*The below tips apply to psychometric tests, specifically personality assessments, for information about cognitive tests, please see here.

1. Understand the purpose and format.

To be able to prepare for the test, it is important that you understand the purpose and format of the recruitment test you are going to complete.  Allow for time to read through all the information you get from the recruiter as well as the instructions you get when you open the test. Being prepared gives you a better understanding of what to expect and how complete the test.

2. Complete the test in a quiet place where you will not get interrupted.

To get the best result, it is important that you are not interrupted. Make sure that you have set aside time to complete the test in peace and quiet so that it is not done quickly between two meetings or in a noisy office or space. Take the test in a quiet place where you can fully concentrate on the task.  Shut down your mobile phone and other distracting devices so that you can focus 100% on the test.

3. Focus on your natural behavior.

The purpose of a personality assessment is to get to know you better, i.e. your natural behavior as well as which leadership and which work environment suits you best. This is so that you can be employed in a role you enjoy, with leadership that gives you the opportunity to grow and develop. Therefore it is important that your reply is honest and reflects what comes natural to you. There are no right or wrong answers. Most psychometric tests seek to show your personality and working style so try to answer as spontaneous as possible and choose the alternatives that you find best represent you and the way you are.

4. Use resources and support.

If you fell insecure or have questions about the test, don't hesitate to use the available support material and contact the recruiter who sent you the test if you feel insecure.

Remember that tests are different and there is not one specific strategy, but by following the tips above and answer objectively and honestly you will give the test the best preconditions for showing your true potential and personality!

Note! If you have already completed the test and you have received your result, you should contact the recruiter. For some test, you don't have to complete the assessment again.

Good luck with your tests!
